Free Britney and give her back her pin number. The singer's father Jamie has filed a petition to end her conservatorship after over a decade of controlling her life and finances - but according to reports her father has demanded $2million (£1.45m) in order for him to step away.
The Los Angeles Superior Court paperwork obtained by TMZ states that the singer "is entitled to have this Court now seriously consider whether this conservatorship is no longer required" and that circumstances have changed "to such an extent that grounds for establishment of a conservatorship may no longer exist."
The document continues: "As Mr. Spears has said again and again, all he wants is what is best for his daughter.
"If Ms. Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr Spears believes that she should get that chance."
The singer's father was due to receive a petition to be removed at the next hearing in the case on Sept. 29.
Attorney Mathew Rosengart previously told The Sun about the petition: "It appears that Mr. Spears believes he can try to avoid accountability and justice, including sitting for a sworn deposition and answering other discovery under oath, but as we assess his filing - which was inappropriately sent to the media before it was served on counsel - we will also continue to explore all options.”
Last week Britney alleged that her dad had tried to “extort” her for $2 million in return for stepping down.
Court documents obtained by The Sun read: “Although Mr. Spears has for more than a decade evidently engaged in abusive and bullying conduct while also elevating his own personal and financial interests above those of his daughter," the petition began.
They continue: “Regardless of the past, Mr. Spears and his counsel are now on notice: the status quo is no longer tolerable and Britney Spears will not be extorted.
“Mr. Spears’s blatant attempt to barter suspension and removal in exchange for approximately $2 million in payments, on top of the millions already reaped from Ms. Spears’s estate by Mr. Spears and his associates, is a non-starter.”
According to Mathew, the pop star's father is also attempting to "ensure payments to certain third parties while he perceives he still has leverage to extract concessions, but the reasons for his audacious desire to divert conservatorship assets to himself and others are, at this time, beside the point."
Mr Spears revealed in August he was going to step down as Britney's conservator with his lawyer stating: "There are, in fact, no actual grounds for suspending or removing Mr. Spears as the Conservator of the Estate.
"And it is highly debatable whether a change in conservator at this time would be in Ms. Spears' best interests.
"Nevertheless, even as Mr. Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests.
"So, even though he must contest this unjustified Petition for his removal, Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter's new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator."
