You can be pretty sure, when Stephen Graham is in a show, that it’s going to be worth watching. From This is England through to recent prison-based drama, Time, and everything in between, such as Line of Duty and The Virtues, his appearances are not to be missed. So you’ll definitely want to catch a new drama he is working on.
ITV series Alder is based on the tragic true story of Christopher Alder, a black man who was choked to death in 1998 while in custody at Queens Gardens police station.
A coroner's inquest found he was unlawfully killed but, whilst five officers were charged with manslaughter and misconduct, they were acquitted, and nobody has ever been convicted for the death of the 37-year-old ex-serviceman.
Production has begun on Alder and, whilst it is not yet known which character Graham will be playing, some photos have emerged of him on set. There aren’t many clues, however, in these photos, other than the fact that his character is picking a child up from school. He has stubble and slightly longer hair than usual.
There are no concrete details regarding who else will be appearing in Alder, how many episodes there will be, or when it will air, but it sounds like the show will be another example of the kind of unmissable drama that we have come to expect from Stephen Graham.
Ever-busy, the actor has plenty of other projects on the go. He will be joining the cast of Peaky Blinders for the show’s sixth series, and he will also star in an upcoming Channel 4 project with Jodie Comer, called Help.
Elsewhere, the 48-year-old actor will be appearing in the new film Venom: Let There Be Carnage, as well as the movie Boiling Point, in which he plays a head chef.
Another cinema trip that will be worth taking will be to see Stephen in the adaptation of the Matilda stage musical, which will be out next year.
