The Sanderson sisters are set for another resurrection! Disney+ has shared the bewitching news that, not only is a sequel to the 1993 film happening, but that the stars of the original flick, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, have all signed up.

It’s pretty safe to say that there is plenty of excitement amongst the cast for the new film, with Bette Midler using a classic quote from the original film on Twitter to exclaim her feelings. “Sistaaaahs! It’s been 300 years
 But we’re BACK!”

In case you need a little reminder about the plot of the original Hocus Pocus, it centred around three witch sisters (Midler, Parker and Najimy) who were executed in 1693. Then, 300 years later, a boy who moved to Salem inadvertently resurrected them, as you do. They had until sunrise to achieve immortal life, meaning that lots of fun, chaos and hilarity ensued.

Seemingly working to the notion of not fixing something that isn’t broken, the new film will follow three young women who accidentally bring the Sanderson sisters back to present-day Salem again, where their quest for immortality will continue.

The director of the original Hocus Pocus movie, Adam Shankman, is unable to return to direct the sequel, but will instead be an executive producer on the project. Anne Fletcher, known for Step Up, 27 Dresses and The Proposal, will be directing the new movie.

"Now more than ever, people need to laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film,” she said.

“I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special. This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started."

Fans will have to wait a while for the return of the witches though, as Hocus Pocus 2 isn’t expected until late 2022.
