Exciting news for The Simpsons and The Smiths fans. The two are set to be combined in cartoon form during a new episode this weekend titled Panic On The Streets of Springfield.
Lisa is due to get a new imaginary friend from the UK who happens to be a depressed indie singer from the 1980s - and voicing the infamous British star is Benedict Cumberbatch.
Promo material sees Lisa and indie-icon-esque star standing outside the Springfield Lads Club – a nod to Salford Lads Club and the sleeve of The Smith's 1986 album The Queen is Dead.
The Simpsons writer Tim Long shared a preview on Twitter and wrote: “Um, guys? I’m very excited about this.”
He then answered a fan's question whether the man himself would be voicing the character: “Don’t know who this ‘Morrissey’ is you speak of, but the fellow on the left is played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Really.”
Morrissey is thought to have declined the offer to appear on the show in the season 15 episode The Regina Monologues which came over to Britain and had guest appearances from former Prime Minister Tony Blair and Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.
