Mads Mikkelsen joins the cast for upcoming Indiana Jones 5

It's big news for magic Mads Mikkelsen and the cast of Indiana Jones 5. The Danish actor will be bulldozing his way through the blockbuster opposite Harrison Ford and leading lady Phoebe Waller-Bridge - although his villainous character is yet to be unveiled.

According to Deadline, the Casino Royale star and the team hope to start shooting during the summer with the movie set for release in July 2022.

James Mangold is taking over Steven Spielberg's director chair, while he will still be an executive producer with a script creation from Jez and John-Henry Butterworth.

Mangold recently said: "I'm thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers.

"Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can't help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself."

The fifth instalment of the iconic franchise will be Disney's last and rumours suggest that the plot may go back in time to the 1960s.
