As a nation, we've always loved talking about the weather. A new study has found that we now prefer to talk about what we've been watching on TV.

It comes as no surprise really what with lockdown, we're all staying at home and binging series more than ever.

Virgin Radio's Amy Voce is glad that TV has taken the top spot, after all, there's far more to talk about with so many streaming services now.

Sky's new study shows that 72 per cent of us now prefer to talk about TV than the weather.

Of those surveyed, 36 per cent say television and film are the most important thing keeping spirits up over the last year with the pandemic.

Sky UK and Ireland’s Managing Director of Content Zai Bennett said: “As a nation, Brits have earned a reputation for our chit chat being focused on the weather, but our research reveals that the last year has seen TV taking over the top spot in the nation’s small talk,”

“Clearly during such a tough period, unmissable TV and films have played a big part in bringing friends, family and colleagues together.”

The pandemic has been tough for many of us, and  41 per cent of people said chatting about their favourite film and TV characters “helped them through a tough time."

We spend around 2.5 hours every month on average discussing TV plot twists.

As we've been spending more time at home, 79 per cent of people said they had watched more television over the last year. Having more choice than ever has been a big reason why, with 30 per cent attributing the rise to a selection of more impressive titles to watch.

Do you prefer talking about TV or do you love a bit of weather chat?
