The country went decimal nearly 50 years ago and some of the millions of coins made since then are worth a pretty penny or two (read: £900).
Can you believe it was only in 1971 that shillings were traded in for pounds and pence back on February 15th and the 50p was welcomed into the world.
To mark the anniversary, the Royal Mint have released a new range of 50p coins, athough they won't go into circulation.
Dig around in your pots of spare change and you might find a rare 50p coin which could get you anything from a few quid to a few hundred.
The rarest 50p coins include:
Alternative Olympic swimming - 2011
Made in honour of the 2012 Olympics, these coins feature a swimmer and are thought to be worth between £750 and £900.
