The Rolling Stones have announced a deluxe reissue of their classic ‘The Rock And Roll Circus’
This film documents a 1968 performance from rock legends the Rolling Stones, the Who, John Lennon, Eric Clapton and others.
Mick Jagger's girlfriend, folkie Marianne Faithfull, also sings. The unconventional concert takes place in a carnival-like setting, and the musicians don outlandish apparel to match the garish backdrop.
Jagger acts as the ringmaster and introduces the bands, and a collaborative blues set by Lennon, Clapton and Stones guitarist Keith Richards is also featured.
The performance was recorded in front of a live audience in London and was originally conceived as a BBC-TV special.
Now due for UK release on 28th June, has been restored to 4K Dolby Vision on Blu-ray and DVD. The soundtrack has also been remixed and expanded to 28 songs, and this is set to be released across double CD and triple vinyl (see the unboxing video below).
Bonus material features unheard tracks by the collective plus recordings by the late concert pianist Julius Katchen, three additional songs by Taj Mahal and never before heard recordings of The Dirty Mac performing The Beatles classic, ‘Revolution’ and the aptly titled track ‘Warmup Jam’.
