5 facts about the making of the 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' video

We've put together 5 facts about the legendary video.
1. The video cost less than $50,000 to make.
Despite only costing less than $50,000 it was one of the most played videos on MTV.
2. Fans were invited to take part in the music video.
An open casting call poster was handed out to Nirvana fans and a radio station in LA was doing an on air casting call competition.
3. Kurt Cobain suggested that the fans should smash up the set of the video to the director.
Music Video director Samuel Bayer agreed with Cobain and the fans were let loose which led to the video being a must see.
4. Bayer didn't know who Nirvana was untill the music video opportunity came around.
Bayer was in need of work at the time and took the job straight away when someone from the bands label offered it to him.
5. The video took inspiration from The Ramones:
The film 'RockN'Roll High School' by The Ramones served as the inspiration for the video. the video also took inspiration from the movie 'Over The Edge' which featured the tagline: "A real story of teenage rebellion", the film depicts teenage angst in a high school that students eventually smash up." well that just sums up the entire video for 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'.
