Legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin passed away surrounded by friends and family after a battle with cancer

One of the greatest soul voices of all time, Aretha was born in Detroit on March 25, 1942.

Following her signing to Atlantic Records in 1967, Franklin achieved commercial acclaim and success with songs such as and .

Franklin was the most charted female artist in magazine's history. She had a total of 112 charted singles, including 77 Hot 100 entries, 17 top ten pop singles, 100 RnB entries and twenty no.1 RnB singles. Franklin also recorded acclaimed albums such as and.
