Heartstopper’s Joe Locke has spoken about portraying a “mysterious character” in Disney+'s latest Marvel Cinematic Universe series, Agatha All Along.

Created by Jac Schaeffer, the show is a spin-off from the acclaimed series WandaVision, and sees Kathryn Hahn reprise her role as the witch Agatha Harkness. After being trapped in Westview, she escapes with the help of a goth - simply called Teen - played by Locke, who wants to face the trials of the legendary Witches' Road.

Without her magical powers, Agatha and Locke’s character form a new coven of witches with which to face the trials.

Speaking to virginradio.co.uk and other press, the actor, who plays Charlie Spring in Heartstopper said of his role in Agatha All Along: “I can tell you that he is a mysterious character. He's fun. He has a lot of personality. He's a fanboy of witches. But also, you know, there's, there's something else to him that we may see.”

When asked what it means to play an openly gay character in a Marvel series, Locke said: “I think it's great, Teen's sexuality is definitely a key part of him, and it's really great to get to play that. But also, what I love about Teen is that it's not his only personality trait.

“Jac has created this really multifaceted personality of a character, and we spoke a lot about the representation of that and whether it should be more queer or less. And I really, I think we got to a really nice spot with it, which I'm very proud of it.”

Talking at the UK special screening at London’s Shaftesbury Avenue, the actor teased: “There's a few cool, cool spells in the show, but I won't spoil them for you.”

In related news, earlier this year, actor and Virgin Radio Pride host Bradley Riches spoke to Chris Evans about starring in hit Netflix show Heartstopper and also shared his Pride Playlist.
