We finally know when Brad Pitt will bring his Formula One drama to the big screen.

The yet-to-be-titled F1 movie will be directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski, and stars Pitt as a veteran driver named Sonny Hayes, who is returning to the grid after a long absence.

After much speculation - and plenty of delays - F1 bosses have confirmed when audiences can watch the Lewis Hamilton-produced flick.

The F1 movie, starring Pitt and Damson Idris, will head to UK cinemas on 25th June 2025, with the sport’s bosses hoping to get audiences speeding to the silver screen after the popularity of Netflix’s Drive to Survive series.

To gear up for production, Mr and Mrs Smith star Pitt raced an adapted Formula Two car between practice sessions at a sold-out British Grand Prix last July, and, alongside his fictional rookie team-mate Joshua Pierce (Idris), lined up on the grid with 20 drivers prior to the race.

Pitt has also been getting some practice in at Silverstone, with cameras set to roll on scenes there during next month’s race.

Speaking in a statement, an F1 spokesperson said: “The movie is a landmark for the sport and cinema, filmed in real-time during grands prix around the world and involving the Formula One community, including all 10 teams, the drivers, the FIA and race promoters.

"The new feature film is set in the exhilarating and cinematic world of Formula One and will immerse audiences in the spectacle of the most popular annual sports series, celebrating the skill and heroism of the drivers while showcasing the incredible challenge of competition in Formula One."

It turns out that seven-time F1 champ Hamilton isn’t just watching from the sidelines, and instead heavily invested in making sure the movie feels as authentic as possible.

Speaking about the project last year, the sportsman said: “We want everyone to love it and to really feel that we encapsulate what the essence of this sport is all about.

"I don't know if this would have been possible 10 years ago when the old management was in place. They wouldn't have perhaps seen this as an important step in terms of the sport's growth.

He continued: "But we've already seen the great work and impact of the Netflix show, and this will take it to new heights beyond that."

The yet-to-be-titled F1 movie starring Brad Pitt will be out in cinemas on 25th June 2025.
