Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson has revealed how Ant and Dec were pivotal in the band’s early days after insisting the rockers perform on Saturday Night Takeaway.

Ricky and the band will come full circle by performing on the final episode of SNT with the Geordie duo on Saturday night (13th April).

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly confirmed their landmark 20th series will be their last for now as the pair want to spend more time with their families.

Speaking on his Virgin Radio Drivetime show earlier today (10th April), Ricky shared that Ant and Dec were actually a big catalyst behind Kaiser Chiefs reaching their “stratospheric" heights.

He explained: “A couple of decades ago, Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway started and they said, ‘Kaiser Chiefs should be on that.’”

According to Ricky, ITV originally said no, before being persuaded by massive KC fan Ant to have them perform, which changed the game for the band forever.

“It propelled us to the stratosphere,” the musician added. “We've been on it four more times since then, we enjoy it every time. It's a lovely show to be on.”

When it comes to what will go down on Ant and Dec’s final Saturday Night Takeaway, Ricky shared his excitement to be back on the stage…but won’t be sure on what the band will be doing until they get there.

Ricky continued: “You'd be surprised to know this but it's not actually sorted until the night. You think that they do it months in advance but we don't know what we're doing.

“I know that me and the band are turning up. We're doing something on the final episode. We don't know what we're doing. We've just been told to be there.

“I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you that but I've told you so keep tuned to the radio until Saturday night,” the frontman joked.

The final Saturday Night Takeaway will be a two-hour extravaganza featuring some of the biggest names in british telly and music.

As well the Kaiser Chiefs, the likes of S-Club, Scarlett Moffatt, Andi Peters, Jordan North and Tony Hadley will also be on hand during the big night.

There will also be a special of Get Out Of Me Ear: The Revenge with Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Dermot O’Leary, Alison Hammond, Holly Willoughby, Rylan, Oti Mabuse, Olly Murs, Davina McCall, Gino D’Acampo, Craig David, Richard Madeley and Cheryl.

Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway will come to an end (for now) on Saturday 13th April on ITV1, STV, STV Player and ITVX.
