Lisa Snowdon has written a new book, Just Getting Started, to support women in all stages of life, from fertility to pregnancy to menopause and beyond.

The TV and radio presenter joined Andy Goldstein on Virgin Radio UK this morning to talk about the new book and why it was so important for her to write it.

After revealing she had locked herself away for three months to finish the book, Lisa said: “I poured my heart and soul into it.

“I wanted to write a midlife manual scattered with things that had happened to me and I wanted it to be the book I never had in my early 40s.”

The presenter will open up about when she became perimenopausal at 42 and how she struggled with the changes happening in her body. She talks about how it impacted her mood, how she became very anxious with panic attacks and how her gut health was affected by new intolerances to food.

Lisa added: “I’ve spoken really openly about women’s health and menopause and all of the stuff I went through, and there just wasn’t enough information ten years ago.”

Just Getting Started will also feature some sections from Lisa’s partner, George, who gives advice on how to be supportive of loved ones who are going through changes. For Lisa, this was the most important part because she found communicating what was wrong with her very difficult.

She said, " When we ladies don’t know what’s happening to us, there’s no way we can communicate it to the person that we love. For years, [menopause] was seen as a taboo subject, and there was so much stigma around it. Now we’re talking about it more openly, getting help, and becoming the best versions of ourselves.”

“Just Getting Started is my mantra. I got to 50, and I was like, ‘Okay, what’s next?’ I’m just getting started. I don’t want to write myself off because I had a few struggles in my 40s,” Lisa concluded.

Just Getting Started is now available to pre-order and will be released on 11th April.
