True Detective Season 4 has a release date at last

Fans have been waiting patiently for details about the fourth season of True Detective and at long last there is a release date.

Not only that, but a look at what to expect has been released with a new trailer.

The new series is called True Detective: Night Country.

It is based in the frozen wilds of Alaska, so we imagine there will many snowy scenes.

The date for your diary is January 14 in the US from 9pm on HBO Max, before appearing on January 15 at 2am on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.

It's set to be another star-studded affair as Jodie Foster will star in this season alongside former boxing champion Kali Reis.

Issa López is the showrunner, writer, and director of all six episodes.

According to Variety, this is the synopsis: “When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”

Also starring in the show will be Finn Bennett, Fiona Shaw, with Christopher Eccleston, Isabella Star LaBlanc, and John Hawkes. Anna Lambe, Aka Niviâna, June Thiele, Diane Benson, and Joel D. Montgrand are guest stars.

The award-winning series has earned five Emmy awards since 2014.

The cast have taken home trophies for Outstanding Cast for a Drama Series, Outstanding Directing For a Drama Series, and more.

Fans have been waiting patiently for the next series, as it has been a whopping four years since the last instalment.
