Fans react to Jonnie Irwin sharing first look at TV return amid lung cancer diagnosis

Jonnie Irwin has given fans a treat by announcing his return to TV with Escape to the Country — despite living with terminal lung cancer.

The determined star told followers on Instagram about his new venture: "I head down to Somerset and look at some fantastic rural properties in some beautiful locations. Plus I also get to visit a cider farm - perks of the job. Hope you enjoy!"

The host is back with a brand new episode of the show, airing on BBC One on Monday, 25 September at 3pm.

In a teaser look at the first episode, Jonnie can be seen showing a 'pretty special' property to a couple.

"Goodness gracious," they tell the presenter.

One fan wrote alongside the happy shots: “About time they put you back on. You are great on the show.”

A second added: “Look forward to watching it… always enjoy your episodes the best.”

A third penned: “Recorder set and off to work I go, looking forward to seeing you later Jonnie. You are really one inspirational man.”

“Glad to hear they are still allowing you to work so you can continue to support your wonderful family financially," wrote another.

The star previously told Hello magazine: “I don't know how long I have left, but I try to stay positive, and my attitude is that I'm living with cancer, not dying from it.”

The Place in The Sun star was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020, but it has now spread to his brain. Jonnie has been candid about his journey with terminal cancer, keeping followers up to date on social media with everything from his family to his current projects. 

The presenter and his wife Jessica, 40, initially kept his cancer diagnosis private from their children and admitted: "I keep being asked, 'Are you going to tell them?' but tell them what? It would be horrible news that they'd have to get their heads around.”

Jonnie fronted A Place In The Sun from 2004 to 2021 and has also been the face of shows including Escape to the Country and To Buy or Not to Buy.
