Following an acclaimed first series of Time, which starred Sean Bean and Stephen Graham, the prison drama is coming back with a different, but equally stellar, cast.
As with the first series, the new three-part story is written by multi-award winning Jimmy McGovern, along with Helen Black, who wrote BAFTA-nominated Life and Death in the Warehouse.
The new series will take place in a women’s prison, and will focus on three very different inmates. Jodie Whittaker, best known for portraying the 13th incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who, will play Orla. Meanwhile, The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey will portray Kelsey. Tamara Lawrance from The Silent Twins will play Abi.
The trio arrive at Carlingford Prison on the same day, the trio are thrown together to face an unfamiliar world. However, despite the ever-present threat of violence within the jail, they find out that an unexpected sense of community, and a shared understanding, might still be possible.
The new series will see Happy Valley’s Siobhan Finneran reprise her role as prison chaplain Marie-Louise, while Sophie Willan plays inmate Maeve.

The cast also features BAFTA-winner Sophie Willan, as well as Shetland’s Julie Graham and Alicia Forde from Waterloo Road.
Lisa Millett (Robin Hood), Faye McKeever (The Responder), Kayla Meikle (The Capture), James Corrigan (This Is Going to Hurt), Nicholas Nunn (SAS Rogue Heroes) and Maimuna Memon (Unforgotten) make up the cast.
In a statement, Jodie Whittaker said: "Time was such an incredible and powerful show created by an extraordinary team, and being a part of this project in its second iteration is an absolute dream."
Meanwhile, Stephen Graham, who played a prison guard in series one, is set to star in new TV series Boiling Point, which follows the film of the same name. Read about it here.
Time series one is available to watch on BBC iPlayer now. Series two is coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this Autumn.
