Strictly professional Giovanni Pernice has opened up about the ankle injury which led to him missing some rehearsals at the show’s studios this year.

Speaking about the injury which the 33-year-old appears to have first had trouble with in July 2023, the TV star recently reassured fans “Luckily it wasn’t a major one, and I’m back in business,” the Mirror reports.

Giovanni’s ankle injury led to him having to pull out of performing the final week of his Him & Me tour with former Strictly Come Dancing dancer turned judge Anton Du Beke this summer.

“As you probably know I’m on tour at the moment with Anton and doing one of the dances I did twist my ankle on stage,” he wrote on his Instagram at the time.

His statement continued: “I have just been to the doctor, to the physio, and he advised [me] to rest for a few weeks, which means I’m not going to be able to dance at the weekend.”

Giovanni also revealed that this twist meant he would be missing out on some of the rehearsals for future Strictly dance routines which were going on at the time, and which are recorded in advance of the show airing.

“I just need to give some rest to my ankle and come back stronger than ever for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing - which I’m really looking forward to,” he told fans.

But while Giovanni’s injury may have left him out of some of the professionals' planned dance numbers, he will still be taking part in the 21st series of the show, which begins this weekend.

Joining the popular ballroom personality on Strictly this year will be a celebrity cast including Virgin Radio’s own Angela Scanlon, as well as actors Amanda Abbington and Bobby Brazier, Les Dennis and Nigel Harman.

Strictly Come Dancing 2023’s stars will take to the floor for the first time on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Saturday 16th September from 6.35pm.
