Sex Education: Netflix finally release full-length trailer for show's final season

Sex Education is returning to Netflix later this September, and the streaming platform has finally released the fourth season’s highly-anticipated trailer.

Teasing fans will need to “get [their] tissues ready” ahead of tuning into the well-loved series later this month, the trailer sees teenagers Otis (Asa Butterfield), Maeve (Emma Mackey) and more fan favourite characters return for one final series of sixth-form set drama.

Netflix revealed that series four of the show would be the show’s last back in July 2023 when they also revealed its air date, 21st September, and gave fans a glimpse of the series in a teaser trailer.

Sex Education focuses on the highs and lows of adolescence and all the good and bad things which can come from growing up and exploring the world of sex and relationships for the first time.

The comedic if often also very emotional show has a huge star cast, including The X Files and The Fall star Gillian Anderson as Otis’ mum Jean. 

It also stars future Doctor Who lead Ncuti Gatwa alongside other well known names such Amie Lou Wood, Simone Ashley and Connor Swindells, all of whom became household names after the success of seasons one, two and three.

Netflix’s trailer announcement kept their commitment to innuendo as well as good TV high, as the platform teased “Let’s finish together.”

On the topic of the show coming to an end, Sex Education's creator Laurie Nunn revealed in a statement that series four wasn’t originally going to be its last series.

However: “During that [writing] process, it just started to feel very clear that the stories were coming to an end, the characters were being left in a place that I felt really good about it,” she said.

Looking back at his time filming for the final season of Sex Education during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Ncuti Gatwa who plays fan-favourite Eric suggested the show’s cast had begun to feel they had “outgrown” the series by the time they were finished filming series four.

“I feel like we’ve outgrown it and we’ve given everything we can to it,” he said, but he has also been open about his love for the programme, referring to his time on the show as “special” in April 2023.

Sex Education series four will be released on Netflix for everyone’s viewing pleasure on 21st September.
