Fans go wild for first look at unrecognisable Adam Driver in Ferrari trailer as mogul Enzo with Penelope Cruz

The trailer for Ferrari has screeched onto screens and dropped a first look at an unrecognisable Adam Driver as auto mogul Enzo Ferrari complete with prosthetics and a wig.

The 38-year-old looks uncanny as the silver-haired Enzo Ferrari, founder of the luxury car brand, looking suited and booted in the 1950's-set movie.

The actor, who starred opposite Lady Gaga in House Of Gucci as Maurizio Gucci, is portraying the pioneer and former race car driver formerly known as 'il Commendatore' - 'the Commander'.

Driver says in the short teaser clip: 'If you get into one of my cars, you get in to win.'

Written and directed by The Last Of The Mohicans' Michael Man, the cast includes Penelope Cruz as Enzo's wife Laura, Shailene Woodley as Enzo's mistress Lina Lardi, the mother of Ferrari's now-vice chairman, Piero.

The logline for the movie reads: 'It is the summer of 1957. Behind the spectacle of Formula 1, ex-racer Enzo Ferrari is in crisis. Bankruptcy threatens the factory he and his wife, Laura built from nothing ten years earlier.

'Their volatile marriage has been battered by the loss of their son, Dino a year earlier. Ferrari struggles to acknowledge his son Piero with Lina Lardi. Meanwhile, his drivers' passion to win pushes them to the edge as they launch into the treacherous 1,000-mile race across Italy, the Mille Miglia.'

Patrick Dempsey stars as racecar driver Piero Taruffi, Jack O’Connell as racer Peter Collins, Sarah Gadon as Linda Christian and Gabriel Leone as driver Alfonso de Portago, whose Ferrari crashed into the stands killing him and nine others.

Fans commented: 'That's how you do a trailer. Stoked for this film now. Please don't give anymore away before it hits cinemas!'

A second added: 'Whoever edited this trailer did a solid job building the tension right till the end. Very excited to see this movie.'

A third praised: 'One of my most anticipated films of the year. Love Michael Mann's films. "Heat," "Collateral," "Thief," "Manhunter," you name it. This looks incredible.'

Ferrari is set to land in cinemas on December 25, 2023.
