As Celebrity MasterChef heat three continues, star Wynne Evans has revealed how his preparation for the series almost led to complete disaster.
(Spoilers ahead for Wednesday’s episode (16th August)
Wynne, best known for being the GoCompare Man, was up against the likes of Drag Queen Cheryl Hole, singer Jamelia, musician Locksmith and 80s icon Sam Fox during last night's episode (Thursday 17th August).
Unfortunately for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Cheryl, she was the first to be sent home following a rather unfortunate martini pudding and lamb rump.
Cheryl shouldn’t worry too much about a massive food mishap, as co-star Wynne admitted exclusively to virginradio.co.uk that a dinner party he threw in preparation for his time in the kitchen almost ended in disaster.
When asked what he did to get himself ready for his MasterChef moment, Wynne explained: “I wanted to do loads of Welsh food, so I cooked lamb. I really didn't put the oven on high enough, so I could see my mates sat around the table whispering to each other, ‘is it safe to eat?' Which is not ideal the day before you go on MasterChef!
“I practised a lot and I practice thoroughly, I think. It's like when you're in school, you turn into a school child again. You always want to [cover your] answers so nobody can copy them. It was a bit like that. They’d ask ‘have you practised?’ and you’d go ‘no, not really’, knowing you'd been up to like three o'clock in the morning with your 19th piece of lamb trying to cook it perfectly. It was everything I thought it was going to be and more.”
Despite being a huge fan of the MasterChef format, Wynne was initially trepidatious about appearing on the show following his recent weight loss journey.
The actor was “five and a half stone down” when he entered the MasterChef kitchen, and was worried the delicious dishes could’ve caused his progress to stall.
Wynne continued: “I had this weird feeling…because everything tastes better with butter and double cream, right? So this weird thing going into MasterChef and going like, ‘oh my god, I going to put all my weight back on.’
“I was so nervous and on my feet all the time. I actually lost weight to the MasterChef, believe it or not!”
Tonight (17th August), Wynne returns to the kitchen with the remaining contestants for round two, but who will be sent home before the Quarter Finals?
Celebrity MasterChef continues tonight (17th August) at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
