It may be the final month of Virgin Radio Pride, but we’ve still got plenty of incredible specials and guests lined up to take us all the way through August.
Tonight (Monday 31st July) at 7pm, My Pride Playlist will feature writer and journalist Paul Burston.
Paul will chat to host Steve Denyer about his incredibly varied career, including writing for publications like Attitude, The Guardian, The Sunday Times and Time Out. He is also the curator and host of the award-winning LGBTQ+ literary salon Polari, and the founder of The Polari Prize book awards for LGBTQ+ writers.
Paul also featured in the British Council’s Global List of ‘33 visionary people promoting freedom, equality and LGBT rights around the world in 2016.
This week’s Big Conversation is all around LGBTQ+ education in schools, and the importance of including stories from all walks of life into the classroom.
On Tuesday night (1st August) at 7pm, to mark twenty years since Section 28 was repealed, Matt Cain will gather three queer young people to hear tales from writer Juno Dawson, musician Dan Gillespie Sells, headteacher John Naples-Campell and former teacher Catherine Lee MBE to reflect on how being queer in the classroom has changed.
On Wednesday (2nd August) at 7pm, Steve Denyer is back to speak to Manchester drag royalty Gareth Joyner (AKA Myra Dubois) on location from Manchester’s Canal Street.
The special will look at Gareth’s career and why Manchester is such an iconic LGBTQ+ destination.
Then, on Thursday (3rd August), Matt & Harry are back with their new show, chatting about all things LGBTQ+, with a particular focus on relationships in all their forms!
On Fridays throughout August, join DJ Ben Aldridge from LGBTQ+ club night Glitter Bomb for an hour of the biggest club anthems to kick your weekend off in style.
