Presenter Craig Doyle told a Loose Women panellist that he had a childhood crush on her, live on This Morning!

Craig is one of the guest presenters that has stepped in to co-host This Morning since the exit of Phillip Schofield, and, appearing alongside Holly Willoughby today (5th July), he admitted something to Janet Street Porter that she probably wasn’t expecting.

When the show linked up with the Loose Women studio to talk about Janet’s half-century in broadcasting, Craig spoke of the influence she had on him as a young person hoping to break into the industry. He said: “When Janet started in broadcasting, she was just so different to everybody and so outspoken, and she was just the most incredible, as a young person wanting to get into it, I said, ‘That’s who I want to be. Says what she thinks’. Still do!”

When Janet suggested that she thought he was going to say that when she started in broadcasting, he was “in nappies!” Craig told her: “I was well out of nappies, Janet. I actually quite fancied you back then!”

This caused Janet to laugh and say: “I can’t believe it!”

As the show continued and Craig set up a competition segment, he thought back to his conversation with the Loose Women star and said: “Did I just tell everybody? I did, didn’t I?.”

Whilst there have been a few hosts of This Morning since Phillip Schofield stepped away, including familiar faces such as Dermott O'Leary, Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson, Craig has been particularly popular with viewers.

Indeed, some have even threatened to stop watching completely if the Irish TV and radio presenter isn’t given the gig full time.

ITV shared an update on the vacancy last month, revealing that “any further announcements concerning future presenters of the show would be made in due course” and that "in the meantime, we will draw on the This Morning family for presenters to co-present with Holly."

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am.
