No Hard Feelings star Andrew Barth Feldman got quite the surprise when his A-list co-star Jennifer Lawrence was the one to tell him he was hired for the comedy flick.

The coming-of-age narrative sees out-of-work, financially strapped Uber driver Maddie (Lawrence) answer an advert from two parents who want someone to “date” their 19-year-old son Percy (Barth Feldman). But they actually want her to do something much more… shall we say… physical, than just take him on a date.

While on the red carpet for the UK premiere for No Hard Feelings, Andrew spoke to virginradio.co.uk and other press about working with the Hunger Games star, and it seems the actress (and producer of No Hard Feelings) was on hand to give him the news of his first leading role.

Andrew said: “[Jennifer] is so herself. She is so generous. She left so much room for me to really be present with her in that sense. She was the one who called me to tell me… it was Gene [director] and Jen called me together. And she said, ‘I'm sorry, Andrew...you're not going to be able to go back to college this semester.’ That was how she broke the news to me.”

It turns out the jokes didn’t end after that phone call either, with Jennifer pulling a couple of pranks on set too.

On the hijinks taking place while cameras were rolling, Andrew added: “There was one day where we were sitting on the lifeguard stand, it's one of the last things in the movie. We got down, she jumped down and went, ‘OW’, like she broke her leg. I was like, ‘oh no!’ and she’s like, ‘I'm fine’. So pranks in in little ways.”

Meanwhile, Jennifer herself discussed whether she is concerned - given the film’s raunchy nature - that her son, who was born last year, will one day watch it. “Everything I've learned from other actors is that your kids will never ever want to watch your movies or hear about that,” she said. “So I feel safe.”

The film lands in cinemas next week, 21st June, and JLaw explained to us why it needs to be seen at the movies. “It's so specific to see it in theatres because you have to laugh with other people,” she said. “This is such an old-fashioned comedy that it just would be a sin to watch it at home by yourself.”

No Hard Feelings is out in cinemas on 21st June.
