While we wait to find out who will play the next James Bond, rumours have also been circulating about other potential cast members.

Last month it was reported that actor and comedian Daisy May Cooper has been “in talks” to play MI5 boss M.

The actor is known for comedy roles in shows such as This Country and Am I Being Unreasonable?, and The Sun reported that Bond bosses think she “would bring a comedic and quirky edge to the role”.

The rumours came after Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge became a script consultant. A source told The Sun: “Daisy is a close pal of Phoebe, whose involvement in Bond was such a success that it sparked an unlikely conversation.

“Suddenly the production team were getting excited about the prospect of really taking M in a different direction,” they added.

The Taskmaster star addressed the reports at the Royal Television Society Awards on Tuesday (28th March), after winning the Comedy Performance (Female) prize for Am I Being Unreasonable?.

Daisy did not attend the awards ceremony, but a speech was read out on her behalf. Radio Times reports that the speech said: “I can't be there because I'm filming Bond... jokes, the only M I'll ever be is Mental.”

The role of M has previously been played by Dame Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Bernard Lee and Robert Brown.

Whilst it seems that we’ll have to keep on waiting to see who the next M will be, several actors have been linked to the role of 007, with Daniel Craig calling it quits after 2021's No Time To Die.

Aaron Taylor Johnson, Henry Cavill, Jamie Dornan and Idris Elba have all been tipped, but the latter recently ruled himself out, saying: “I'm not going to be that guy.”

Kingsman star Taron Egerton also said: “I don't think I'm the right choice for it.”
